Erin's favorite Olympic moments

The debut of snowboard cross (SBX) in 2006 Turin, Italy. American Seth Wescott takes the very first gold ever in this new, exciting event. He repeated again in Vancouver 2010. We will miss seeing him compete this time around as he is out with an injury, but I feel we have not seen the last of him. Thanks Seth Wescott for making me a lifelong fan of your sport. Check it out! It's fun to watch. Way more fun than Ice Dancing. Sorry Ice Dancing.
Watching the 1980 USA men's hockey team win gold as I sat in my living room with my family and all the neighborhood kids. It was one of the coolest things I had ever experienced in my 10 years of living and it started my love affair with the winter Olympic games.
Bode Miller flying down the mountain with reckless abandon in the past 3 Olympics and we'll get to see him do it in Sochi! Hopefully bringing home the gold.
The Chinese "women" winning the team gold in 2008 Bejing. You must be 16 to compete in Olympic gymnastics and it was later found out one of their gymnasts was 13. Marta Karoyli commented on how young they looked. She said "Some of them still have their baby teeth!" They looked REALLY young.
1984 Lo Angeles. Mary Lou Retton bursts onto the scene and wins the all-around gold.
I don't remember what team it was or what year, but there was a four man bobsled crew who had one member who jumped into the sled and ended up backwards and they had to go down the hill with one guy facing the wrong way!
The whole Tonya Harding/Nancy Kerrigan episode. I remember when Kerrigan first got clubbed. I turned to my dad an jokingly said "I bet Tonya Harding had something to do with it". Of course I had no idea she did, but they were mortal enemies. They were like Goofus and Gallant on the ice.
"Eddie the Eagle" the first competitor to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping.Finishing last in the 70m and 90m events, he became famous as an example of a plucky underdog or 'heroic failure', and of Britain's low ability at various sports at the time.

Jessica's favorite Olympic moments

My dad predicting Debbie Thomas' falls during the Calgary Olympics, because he heard spoilers on the radio and knew Katarina Witt would win. We cried.
The night Jessica Ennis took home gold for Team GB in London and the whole bar sang "God Save the Queen". Spectacular.
Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov on the ice. They were enchanting.
Fighting over a calculator with my sister to tabulate figure skating scores
Dan Jansen's epic comeback after his heartbreaking fall
Our night in London when the US women took gold in beach volleyball. The view, the cheering in the tube, the medal ceremony...all magical.
